Exports of flat steel from Ukraine fell to 426,000 tons in Q1

In January–March 2026, Ukrainian steel companies reduced their exports of flat-rolled steel by 1.6% compared to the same period in 2025, down to 426,020 metric tons. This is according to calculations by the GMK Center based on data from the State Customs Service.

Over 81% of exports consisted of hot-rolled flat products (HS Code 7208)—348,600 tons, which is 2.6% less year-on-year. The main consumers of the products during the period were Poland – 124,460 metric tons, Bulgaria – 78,340 metric tons, and Italy – 26,640 metric tons.

Another 14.7% of shipments, or 62,510 tons (+6.9% year-on-year), consisted of cold-rolled flat products (HS 7209). The main consumer of the product is Poland – 30.36 thousand tons. 9.0 thousand tons were exported to Bulgaria and 1.28 thousand tons to Italy.

During this period, 14,460 tons of coated flat-rolled products (HS Code 7210) were exported, which is 12.5% less year-on-year. 12,030 tons of such products were shipped to Poland, and 1,790 tons to Romania.

In March, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 104,890 tons of flat-rolled products, down 26.5% year-on-year and 35.9% month-on-month. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products totaled 82,750 tons (-30.7% year-on-year; -39.5% month-on-month), cold-rolled flat products – 15,340 tons (-7.9% y/y; -33.7% m/m), and coated flat products – 6,660 tons (+1.9% y/y; +100.1% m/m).

Revenue from flat steel exports for January–March rose by 7.3% y/y to $248.74 million, while in March it fell by 18.9% y/y and 31.6% m/m – to $63.13 million.

As reported by GMK Center, in 2025 Ukraine increased its exports of flat-rolled steel by 11.2% compared to 2024, reaching 1.82 million tons. Over 82% of exports consisted of hot-rolled flat steel (HS Code 7208)—1.51 million tons, up 10.5% year-on-year. Revenue from flat steel exports for the year rose by 3.9% year-on-year, to $1.05 billion.
