Hot-rolled flat products account for more than 80% of shipments
In February 2025, Ukrainian steel enterprises reduced exports of flat products by 13.2% compared to the previous month, to 134.88 thousand tons. The figure was down by 1.5% compared to February 2024. This is according to GMK Center’s calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
Hot-rolled flat products (HS 7208) accounted for more than 80% of supplies, amounting to 108.6 thousand tons (-2.1% y/y, -16.3% m/m). Another 22 thousand tons were exported as cold-rolled flat products (HS 7209), up 16.8% y/y and 11.1% m/m, and 4.19 thousand tons (-40.8% y/y, -27.7% m/m) as coated flat products (HS 7210).
In January-February 2025, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 290.34 kt of flat products, up 7% year-on-year.
Shipments of hot-rolled flat products increased by 7.7% y/y – to 238.42 thousand tons. Poland received 82.43 thousand tons of the product, Bulgaria – 60.01 thousand tons, and Italy – 26.14 thousand tons.
Exports of cold-rolled flat products increased by 11.9% y/y over two months to 41.8 thousand tons. The company shipped 10.52 thousand tons of the product to Poland, 8.03 thousand tons to Italy and 5.86 thousand tons to Bulgaria. Coated flat products accounted for another 9.98 thousand tons (-18.5% y/y) of exports. The main destination is Poland – 6.73 thousand tons.
Revenue from flat products exports in January-February this year decreased by 2.2% compared to the same period in 2024 to $153.98 million. In February, the figure decreased by 10% y/y and 10.1% m/m – to $72.89 million.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Ukraine increased exports of flat products by 36.1% compared to 2023, to 1.63 million tons. Hot-rolled flat products accounted for more than 80% of shipments, amounting to 1.363 million tons (+44.7% y/y). Cold-rolled flat products accounted for another 12%, or 201.71 thousand tons (+0.7% y/y).
