According to the State Statistics Service, the average number of employees in the steel industry and production of finished metal products decreased by 0.7% to 189.7 thousand people in November against October 2019.
However, the employment rate in November 2019 was 0.4% higher than in November 2018. In early 2019, 195–196 thousand people were employed in the industry.
In November, the number of employees in the industry grew by 0.2% to 1.85 million people in total. This is however 0.3% less compared to November 2018.
In general, over the 11 months, employment in the industry declined by around 50 thousand people. In early 2019, 1.9 million were employed in the industry.
The number of working hours of employees in the steel industry and production of finished metal products totaled 144 in November. This is 3.5% down from October 2019 and 6.5% down from November 2018.
All these data confirm a decrease in the workload of employees in connection with a decline in production in the steel industry. At the same time, a decrease in the number of the employed in the industry started approximately in the middle of the year.
As reported earlier, the number of employees in the steel industry decreased by 2.7% in 2018, down to 189.7 thousand. Yet, in H2 2018, their number increased by 0.5%.
