Electricity and gas rates have increased in Turkey since April 4

New electricity and natural gas rates took effect in Turkey on April 4, 2026. This was announced in an official statement released on April 3. The government attributed the price adjustment to rising costs in electricity production and distribution, as well as to the updated wholesale gas prices announced by BOTAŞ.

According to the report, retail electricity prices for residential consumers rose by 25%. For subscribers in the public and private services sector connected to low voltage, the increase was 17.5%. For industrial consumers connected to medium voltage, rates increased by 5.8%, and for consumers involved in agricultural activities, by 24.8%.

The statement also specifies that following the tariff revision, the bill for a residential customer with a monthly consumption of 100 kWh amounts to 323.8 Turkish lira.

At the same time, retail prices for natural gas also rose. Taking into account BOTAŞ’s wholesale rates, the average increase for residential consumers was 25%. For industrial consumers, gas prices rose by an average of 18.61%, and for power plants, by 19.42%. In addition, a tiered pricing system has been introduced for households.

Thus, the largest increase in the electricity segment was borne by households, while in the gas segment, the most significant increase was also recorded for residential consumers.

As a reminder, Turkey last raised gas prices for industry in July 2025 — by 24.6% for households and 7.86% for industrial consumers. Electricity prices were adjusted on April 5, 2025, by 10%.
