DMZ to build a new water pipeline to save energy and reduce water losses

The Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMP) plans to implement a large-scale project aimed at saving energy resources and improving the efficiency of water supply. The company will build a new water pipeline to supply technical water from coastal pumping station No. 1 to the treatment facilities that serve rolling mill No. 2, according to the corporate newspaper DCH Steel.

Currently, technical water is supplied from shore pumping station No. 2 through an underground pipeline, part of which runs outside the plant. This arrangement complicates maintenance and monitoring of the pipes, leading to water losses and additional energy costs.

The new water pipeline will be 1.6 km shorter than the existing one and will be laid along the best route – directly from shore pumping station No. 1. In addition, the pipeline will be located above ground, which allows for prompt inspections, repairs, and real-time monitoring of its condition. This will reduce the risk of accidents and leaks, as well as ensure a stable water supply to production facilities.

The project has not only economic but also environmental benefits. Thanks to the new system, DMZ plans to reduce electricity consumption by pumping equipment, reduce technical water losses, and increase the overall efficiency of resource use.

The company emphasizes that the modernization of water supply systems is an important part of the program to optimize energy consumption and improve the environmental safety of production. The implementation of this project allows the plant not only to reduce costs, but also to make the infrastructure more reliable and resistant to external factors.

As a reminder, DMZ recently presented a comprehensive environmental modernization strategy as part of the European green course. The key areas are the construction of an electric steel melting complex (ESMC), the transition to renewable energy sources, and the complete decommissioning of coke production from May 13 this year.
