Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ) has fulfilled the objectives of the first rolling campaign of 2024 at Rolling Shop No. 2. The shop is preparing to start operating in April. This is stated in the corporate newspaper DCH Steel.
During the campaign period (February 23 – March 9), the shop’s rollers produced 11.3 thousand tons of products, producing a standard profile program of channels (from 14 to 30), as well as a small batch of SVP-27.
Еhe campaign was not easy, in particular, due to the periodic failure of electrical equipment. However, the company has taken into account the problems encountered to prevent similar situations in the future. In anticipation of the next April campaign, additional thyristor converters have been ordered. The company is also preparing the purchased rolls for operation.
The company also continued to work on the maximum transition to cast billets instead of rolled billets. An experiment was conducted on channel 20 to switch to a 160 mm square instead of 170 mm.
«These measures will reduce production costs and avoid additional processing of billets by suppliers. The results of the experiments are currently being analyzed,» the statement said.
The company has resumed repairs of heating wells and other equipment in rolling shop No. 1. Negotiations are underway for the next campaign, which is expected to start in May.
In February 2024, DMZ reduced rolled steel production by 45.7% y/y – to 5.3 thousand tons.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, the company increased rolled steel production by 86.2% year-on-year – to 105.6 thousand tons. Last year, the rolling shops focused on the production of mine supports, mine rails, small volumes of channels and angles for the Ukrainian market. In addition, DMZ resumed production of profiles in accordance with European standards.
