Preparatory work for the new production campaign is underway at rolling shop No. 2 of Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ). The main repair work on heating furnace No. 2 has already been completed, according to the corporate newspaper DCH Steel.
During the repair, the third and fourth zones of the furnace were renovated: the burnt-out refractory masonry of the hearth and the framing elements of the walking beams were replaced. In addition, a new burner unit No. 29 was installed. Other units successfully completed the production campaign in January and February and do not require replacement.
The furnace bore (chimney) was also reconstructed, where about four cubic meters of lining were laid.
“We are currently carrying out minor repairs in the furnace working space: replacing sections of refractory masonry,” says Alexander Rebrykov, a heating furnace foreman.
In addition, the company continues to repair the mill’s process equipment, electrical equipment and overhead cranes. All work is scheduled to be completed in April, which will ensure stable and uninterrupted operation of the rolling mill in the new campaign.
Large-scale preparations for the launch of the rolling mill are an important step in maintaining DMZ’s production capacity. The upgraded equipment will improve efficiency and reduce possible downtime during the production process.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, DMZ reduced its rolled steel production by 59.4% compared to 2023, to 42.9 thousand tons. Coke production decreased by 1.2% y/y – to 289.1 thousand tons.
Dnipro Metallurgical Plant is one of the largest metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine. It is part of DCH Steel, a division of DCH Group. DMZ produces the largest range of channels and angles, and is the only producer in Ukraine of channels with parallel shelves from 12 to 30, special profiles for machine building, crane and mine rails.
