DMZ completes overhaul of saturator No. 1 of the coke shop

Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ), part of the DCH Group, has completed a major overhaul of the No. 1 saturator and related equipment at the coke shop. This is stated in the company’s corporate newspaper.

“We have completed the overhaul of the No. 1 saturator, installed new pumps and replaced the water circulation lines of the quenching towers, and performed other important work at the coke plant,” the company said.

The overhaul of the saturator No. 1 in the sulfate department included the dismantling of all utilities, units and corroded metal structures. The shop repaired the saturator body and replaced the lining that protects the body from acid. A new gas heater and pumps were installed on the saturator, and the engines were repaired. A new piping system was installed.

«The large-scale work was completed efficiently and on time. In May, the saturator was tested and put into operation. The repair resulted in a decrease in sulfuric acid and ammonia consumption and an increase in ammonium sulfate production. The upgrade of the saturator will also improve the condition of the gas pipelines after the sulphate separation,” comments Rostislav Grabko, foreman of the coke oven equipment repair shop.

In May, the recovery shop also repaired gas blower No. 3 and carried out a large number of repairs to the quenching tower recycling system. The shop is currently preparing to start the overhaul of the No. 2 saturator.

In June, a new scraper conveyor will be put into operation in the recovery shop to deliver sulphate from the centrifuges to the warehouse. A second water recycling pump for the quenching tower No. 1 will be installed in the coke oven shop. The repair of coke ramp No. 2 will begin. Since last summer, the shop has been repairing coke oven walls using ceramic surfacing.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-May 2024, DMZ’s rolled steel production decreased by 29% y/y – to 30 thousand tons, while coke output increased by 9.7% to 119.1 thousand tons.

In 2023, the company increased its rolled steel production by 86.2% compared to 2022, to 105.6 thousand tons. Last year, the company’s production of metallurgical coke increased by 38.5% compared to 2022, to 292.7 thousand tons.

Dnipro Metallurgical Plant is one of the largest steel enterprises in Ukraine. It is part of DCH Steel, a division of DCH Group. DMZ produces the largest range of channels and angles in Ukraine. Currently, the company is the only domestic producer of special profiles for the machine building and mining industries.
