Rurexpol’s Czestochowa plant, which specializes in the production of pipes, has finally suspended operations. This is the second enterprise of the Alchemia metallurgical group to cease production activities – in 2024, the company also liquidated Walcowni Rur Andrzej in the Opole Voivodeship, laying off more than 400 employees, Fakt.pl reports.
The decision to close Rurexpol was explained by the crisis in the European steel industry, which led to a decline in demand for products. In addition, outdated technologies, high production costs and their projected growth are among the reasons.
Andrzej Karol, chairman of the National Section of Steelworkers of Solidarity, confirmed that production was completely halted. However, the plant is in a state of full readiness, and if the necessary raw materials become available, it can be quickly launched.
Meanwhile, trade unions are trying to save the company. They have asked Prime Minister Donald Tusk to consider the possibility of including Rurexpol in the structure of Huty Częstochowa. The neighboring plant has already resumed production after a long pause, and the unions hope that it could be the key to saving Rurexpol.
February 17 will be an important date for the future of both Huta Częstochowa and Rurexpol, as an auction for the sale of the steelmaker’s assets will take place on that day. If the new owner integrates Rurexpol into its structures, it may give a chance to save some jobs.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Poland’s Węglokoks is considering buying pipe manufacturer Rurexpol, which was one of the divisions of the Czestochowa steel plant before it was sold to Alchemia.
