Corinth Pipeworks acquires British Liberty Pipes Hartlepool plant

Greek Corinth Pipeworks, part of Belgian holding company Cenergy Holdings, has signed an agreement to acquire Liberty Pipes Hartlepool in the UK. This is stated in the company’s announcement.

The agreement to sell the asset between Corinth Pipeworks UK and the administrators appointed by the Business and Property Court of England and Wales in London, acting as agents for Liberty Pipes (Hartlepool), was signed on March 4. The deal was worth £10 million (about €11.45 million).

According to Corinth’s statement, this strategic acquisition is an important milestone in the long-term development plan for the steel pipe segment, as it allows the company to increase its production capacity and strengthen its position as a key supplier to the global energy sector.

As noted, the Hartlepool LSAW pipe plant has a history of supplying solutions to global energy giants such as Shell, BP, Total, and Equinor, as well as leading companies in the subsea engineering industry. The plant is an important asset for the UK, aligning with the government’s priorities of infrastructure renewal and decarbonization through the use of hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

According to Ilias Bekiros, CEO of Corinth Pipeworks, the strategic acquisition aims to double Corinth Pipeworks’ LSAW production capacity, enabling the company to deliver large projects worldwide.

The company manufactures LSAW pipes, supplying products for the carbon capture, hydrogen infrastructure, liquefied natural gas, and oil and gas sectors in the UK, EU, and other countries.

As a reminder, Salzgitter AG announced the signing of major contracts with ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH to supply pipes for the construction of a new hydrogen pipeline, which is part of Germany’s main hydrogen network. Under the contracts, the steel manufacturer’s subsidiaries Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH (MGR) and Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH (MLP) will supply products for the FGL 702 project.
