Consumption of rolled steel in Ukraine fell by 4.3% in 11M 2020

In January–November 2020, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced domestic consumption of rolled products by 4.3% to 4.3 million tons compared to the same period a year earlier, according to  Ukrmetallurgprom citing ETR-Spektr LLC.

The share of imports in the total volume of the rolled products market in Ukraine was 1.13 million tons, or 26.3%. Compared to 11M 2019, the share of imports shrank by 5.9 pp.

The share of flat products in total imports increased and exceeded that of rolled sections, 56.28% and 42.55% respectively.

The main sources of Ukraine’s imports of rolled products were:

  • CIS — 37.1%;
  • EU — 24.8%;
  • Asia — 21.1%.

In 2019, Ukraine cut domestic consumption of rolled products by 13.1% to 4.7 million tons against the previous year. The share of imports increased by 1.6% y-o-y.
