Construction work performed in Ukraine in January-May fell by 7.5% y/y

The index of construction work performed in Ukraine in January-May 2025 decreased by 7.5% compared to the same period in 2024. This is evidenced by data from the State Statistics Service.

Engineering construction experienced a significant decline of 22.3% y/y. Residential construction decreased by 0.4% y/y, while the non-residential construction segment saw growth of 21.6% y/y. Overall, construction of buildings (residential and non-residential) increased by 13.6% y/y.

In monetary terms, the volume of construction output in January-May amounted to UAH 68.99 billion, in particular, in the building sector – UAH 34.05 billion (UAH 11.05 billion – residential buildings; UAH 23 billion – non-residential), engineering structures – UAH 34.94 billion.

The share of new construction in the total volume of construction work performed in January-May of this year was 45%, repairs – 30.2%, reconstruction and technical re-equipment – 24.8%.

In May, construction in Ukraine grew by 5.3% y/y and 32.3% m/m, in particular:

  • buildings (+22.6% y-o-y; +14.6% m-o-m);
  • residential buildings (+11.9% y-o-y; +10% m-o-m);
  • non-residential buildings (+27.9% y-o-y; +16.7% m-o-m);
  • engineering structures (-5.3% y-o-y; +50.6% m-o-m).

As GMK Center reported earlier, the volume of construction work performed in Ukraine last year increased by 15.5% y-o-y to UAH 204.7 billion. In terms of individual segments, the increase in the volume of construction work last year was as follows: residential construction – by 7.6% y-o-y, to UAH 26.6 billion; non-residential construction – an increase of 26.2% y-o-y, to UAH 57.7 billion; engineering structures – an increase of 12.5% y-o-y, to UAH 120.4 billion.

In 2024, the share of new construction in the total volume of construction work performed was 41.1%, repairs – 32.6%, reconstruction and technical re-equipment – 26.3%.
