Baosteel has maintained current prices for hot-rolled coil for sales in October

Baoshan Iron & Steel (Baosteel), a subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group, has maintained current prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) for domestic sales in October. This was reported by BigMint.

Prices for hot-dip galvanized steel also remained unchanged. The company stabilized its offer amid mixed trends in hot-dip galvanized steel futures (SHFE), as the market is affected by weak domestic demand for steel.

Prior to this, Baosteel had raised prices for its steel products for two months in a row. In August, the company announced a 200 yuan per ton ($27.8/t) increase in HRC prices for domestic sales in September, and earlier raised them by 100 yuan/t for August shipments.

HRC production among 37 Chinese steelmakers surveyed by Mysteel for the period August 28-September 3 fell to 3.14 million tons (-3.2% from the previous week), reaching a three-month low. Respondents noted that three steel mills in the north and northeast of the country began maintenance of their facilities during this period.

Chinese steel enterprises increased steel exports by 10% in January-August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, to 77.49 million tons. In August, this figure was 9.51 million tons, which is 3.3% less than in the previous month. The average price was $698/t (-0.6% m/m). In the first eight months of the year, China imported 3.98 million tons of metal products, down 14.1% y/y, and in August, 500,000 tons (+10.6% m/m).
