Construction of Asia United Steel’s steel plant has officially begun in the Kazybek Bek industrial zone in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. This was announced in a press release on the government’s website.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by regional leaders, representatives of local authorities, foreign investors, and project organizations. Regional authorities emphasized the strategic importance of the project for industrial development and strengthening the country’s economic potential.
The project will be implemented in three stages and is expected to create about 600 new jobs. After commissioning in 2027, the plant will be able to produce up to 1.2 million tons of steel per year and will become one of the largest steel enterprises in southern Kazakhstan. Most of the production will be directed to both the domestic market and exports to Central Asian countries.
The production site will cover an area of about 78 hectares. Its location within a special industrial zone will provide the enterprise with access to engineering infrastructure, power supply, water resources, and railway logistics with a throughput capacity of up to 100 cars per day. In the coming years, the zone will be fully equipped with the necessary communications.
The plant will be equipped with modern energy-efficient electric arc furnaces, which will minimize the impact on the environment and meet environmental standards. The project is fully financed by foreign investors and is aimed at producing sought-after construction and industrial products.
It is expected that after reaching its design capacity, Asia United Steel will become one of the leading exporters of steel products and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the regional market.
As a reminder, at the end of November, a new ferroalloy production plant, EkibastuzFerroAlloys, located in the city of Ekibastuz, Pavlodar region, officially began operations in Kazakhstan. The plant is designed to produce 240,000 tons of high-quality ferrosilicon per year. Investments in the project are estimated at approximately 92 billion tenge ($177 million).
