Global steel company ArcelorMittal reduced steel production by 4% in 2025 compared to 2024, to 55.6 million tons, according to its quarterly report published on the company’s website.

«2025 was a turning point for the global steel industry and ArcelorMittal… The global economy shifted towards greater domestic supply resilience, particularly through the introduction of large-scale tariffs. This led to more and more countries finally taking steps to improve the competitiveness of their manufacturing industries. This was particularly acute in Europe, where ArcelorMittal has significant high-quality assets. One of the most important steps was the proposal for new trade measures in the EU and the improvement of the CBAM mechanism, aimed at leveling the playing field with regard to carbon costs. Together, this will allow European producers to return to sustainable capacity utilization levels and ensure a healthy return on capital,» said Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal.

He also added that the full effect of regulatory changes will be felt gradually, more noticeably in the second half of 2026 and in 2027. Despite this, the company is in a very advantageous position to take advantage of this trend, Mittal concluded.

As reported by GMK Center, ArcelorMittal reduced steel production by 0.3% compared to 2023, to 57.9 million tons, at the end of 2024. Iron ore production for the period increased by 0.9% y/y, to 42.4 million tons. Steel shipments to customers during this period amounted to 54.3 million tons (-2.3% y/y), and iron ore shipments (only for AMMC and Liberia) amounted to 26.4 million tons (+0% y/y).

ArcelorMittal is a leading global steelmaking and mining company with a presence in 60 countries and production assets in 18 countries.
