Iron ore production for the period amounted to 35.7 million tons
Global steelmaker ArcelorMittal reduced steel production by 2.5% year-on-year – to 42.8 million tons in January-September 2025, according to its quarterly report published on the company’s website.
Iron ore production for the period increased by 19.8% year-on-year – to 35.7 million tons. Steel shipments to customers amounted to 41 million tons (+0.7% y-o-y), and iron ore shipments (only for AMMC and Liberia) amounted to 26.1 million tons (+38.8% y-o-y).
In Q3, the company reduced steel production by 5.6% compared to the previous quarter and by 8.1% y-o-y – to 13.6 million tons. Shipments of metal products fell by 1.4% q-o-q but increased by 1.5% y-o-y – to 13.6 million tons. Iron ore production amounted to 12.1 million tons (+2.5% q-o-q; +19.8% y-o-y), while shipments amounted to 8.2 million tons (-17.2% q-o-q; +30.2% y-o-y).

«Perhaps the most important event of the quarter was the European Commission’s proposal to strengthen trade measures. Once it comes into force, it will help increase the capacity utilization of European steel companies, improve their profitability, and create confidence for future investments. We hope for the swift adoption and implementation of this initiative, as well as supportive changes to the CBAM,» commented Aditya Mittal, CEO of the company.
Despite the challenging market situation and ongoing tariff pressure, the company sees signs of stabilization and is optimistic about 2026, expecting more favorable policies for the industry in key markets.
As GMK Center reported earlier, ArcelorMittal reduced steel production by 0.3% compared to 2023, to 57.9 million tons, at the end of 2024. Iron ore production for the period increased by 0.9% y/y, to 42.4 million tons. Steel shipments to customers during this period amounted to 54.3 million tons (-2.3% y/y), and iron ore shipments (only for AMMC and Liberia) amounted to 26.4 million tons (+0% y/y).
