ArcelorMittal Poland prepares to restart DP No. 3 in Dąbrowa Górnicza

ArcelorMittal Poland has begun preparations to restart blast furnace No. 3 at its plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The unit was shut down in September 2025 due to difficult market conditions. The cost of the work is estimated at nearly PLN 60 million, according to a press release.

As explained by the company’s president and CEO Wojciech Kosuta, the timing of the furnace’s restart will depend on market conditions, but the company expects that the first cast iron can be produced as early as this spring. According to him, this confirms the company’s readiness to respond quickly to changes in demand.

Work began after a five-month downtime. The main focus is on restoring the blast furnace, which is being rebuilt using new ceramic materials. The cooling system, which is a key element of the unit, is also being modernized. Components worn out during the previous campaign will be repaired or replaced. In addition, a comprehensive upgrade of the structure supporting the casting yard is planned.

The downtime allowed for large-scale repairs that would have been difficult to carry out while the blast furnace was in continuous operation. About 20 contractors are involved in the project.

ArcelorMittal Poland expects that the modernization will extend the life of blast furnace No. 3 by approximately four years and ensure its stable operation in the event of improved market conditions.

ArcelorMittal Poland has invested PLN 100 million in a series of environmental and technical upgrades at its plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The projects are aimed at reducing dust emissions, improving energy efficiency, and increasing production safety.
