The Brazilian enterprise ArcelorMittal Pecem (AMP) in July 2023 reduced the export of slabs by 28.4 m/m – to 199.34 thousand tons. In comparison with July 2022, the volume of foreign deliveries decreased by 5.2% y/y. Kallanish reports about it with the reference to the data of the local port authority.
Export volumes for January-July 2023 increased by 5.1% y/y – up to 1.66 million tons.
In the period until the end of July 2023, the main foreign destination of AMP slabs was the USA, which accounted for 41% of total exports. During this period, ArcelorMittal Pecem also exported these products to Mexico (11% share of total exports), Germany (3%) and Belgium (3%). The domestic market accounted for 41% of the company’s supplies.
As GMK Center reported earlier, ArcelorMittal Pecem increased in June 2023 export of slabs by 57.8% m/m – up to 278.6 thousand tons. Compared to June 2022, the volume of foreign deliveries decreased by 9.9% y/y. In January-June 2023, the export of AMP slabs increased by 6.6% y/y – up to 1.46 million tons.
The Brazilian producer of high-quality slabs Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) became a part of the ArcelorMittal group in March 2023. At the first stage, the plant planned to increase the production rate of slabs from the current 2.85 million tons per year to 3 million tons per year. Such a goal has not been achieved since the opening of the enterprise in 2008. Following the acquisition of Pecem, ArcelorMittal increased its flat steel production capacity in Brazil to 10.5 million tons per year.
