ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih completed the overhaul of blast furnace No. 8 equipment

PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has overhauled the equipment of blast furnace (BF) No. 8. The work was carried out by specialists from the Foundry and Mechanical Plant, according to the company’s Metalurg newspaper.

Employees of the Steel Structures Shop and Repair and Assembly Shop No. 3 overhauled coke and sinter pans, a skip for transporting the charge, and manufactured four coke gates and the same number of sinter gates. Some of the repairs were carried out by employees of RMC-1 and RMC-2.

The coke and sinter screens are used to sort these materials before making the charge for pig iron production. The boxes for them are made of bimetal – steel clad with a hard wear-resistant alloy. This material helps to withstand mechanical wear and tear and high temperatures.

“A skip is a complex product. In fact, it is a railroad car that is pulled to the top of BF No. 8 by rails. It has a so-called harness, which it hooks onto. The harness is also involved in unloading the charge into the furnace charging device, which was also manufactured at LMZ. The unit has wheels called runners. They are made of steel that is stronger than conventional railroad wheels, so we had to buy the billets for the runners, but the billets for the axles were forged at the forging section of RMC-1,” the newspaper said.

The skip body was made and lined with bimetal, which should extend its service life.

As GMK Center reported earlier, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih was included in the top 10 largest wartime investors according to NV.ua’s article “Development is unstoppable. Who invests the most in business and economy – top 50 largest Ukrainian investors”. The company’s capital investments during the two and a half years of war amounted to UAH 9 billion.
