ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt to suspend blast furnace operation

The German steel plant ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt, a subsidiary of global steel producer ArcelorMittal, is suspending production due to scheduled maintenance of its single blast furnace (BF) 5A. This was reported by Osftv.de.

According to the company, repairs will begin on June 22 with the blast furnace being shut down for several hours to prepare for deep blowing. Production will then be slowly and controlledly reduced to carry out this work. The blast furnace is expected to be restarted on June 27-28.

The company also reported that dust and noise emissions are possible near the plant during the shutdown and restart of the blast furnace. DP 5A has an annual production capacity of 1.7 million tons.

As a reminder, global steelmaker ArcelorMittal increased its steel production by 2.8% year-on-year – to 14.8 million tons in January-March 2025. Compared to the previous quarter, the figure rose by 5.7%.

At the same time, Germany reduced steel production by 12.5% y/y to 8.49 million tons in January-March 2025. Pig iron production in the same period fell by 15.7% y/y – to 5.32 million tons, and rolled steel production fell by 10.9% y-o-y to 7.64 million tons.

ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt was established in the early 1950s from the former East metallurgical plant. It is an integrated plant equipped with a blast furnace, converter, hot and cold rolling mills. The company employs about 2,000 people, producing products for the automotive industry, household appliance manufacturers, and construction.
