ArcelorMittal completes consultations on closing Tailored Blanks division

ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks has officially completed the information and consultation phase regarding the planned closure of its plant in Ghent, Belgium. Currently, 90 people work at the site. This is stated in the company’s press release.

During the procedure, the company explained in detail the reasons for its intention to cease operations and discussed all questions, comments, and alternative proposals with its social partners. According to the company, the dialogue took place in a transparent and constructive format.

At the same time, the parties agreed on a social plan. It provides a full employment guarantee within ArcelorMittal Belgium for all employees who wish to remain with the company, with their current level of remuneration maintained. A voluntary redundancy program with financial compensation is also provided for those who decide to leave the group.

On February 20, 71.11% of employees affected by the restructuring supported the social package. The final decision on the closure of the enterprise must now be made by the company’s board of directors.

ArcelorMittal emphasizes that it is committed to supporting employees during the transition period and implementing all measures responsibly and with respect for the staff.

In early January, ArcelorMittal announced that it was considering the possibility of permanently closing its Tailored Blanks division in Ghent (Belgium) and began consultations with trade unions. Tailored Blanks is responsible for manufacturing custom-made blanks. These products are mainly used in the automotive industry, in particular for car bodies and structural parts.
