ArcelorMittal Belgium is resuming operations at its hot-dip galvanizing line in Flemal

ArcelorMittal Belgium has announced the resumption of operations at its Galva 5 hot-dip galvanizing line in Flemal after a four-year shutdown. This was reported by SteelOrbis.

ArcelorMittal acquired the Galva 5 line in July 2025, after which the company launched a large-scale reconstruction and modernization project. It included roof repairs, maintenance of the coil feeding and unwinding systems, restoration of the pickling section and zinc bath, as well as modernization of the facility’s digital infrastructure.

With the restart of Galva 5, ArcelorMittal Belgium is resuming its domestic production capacity for coated steel in heavy gauge formats. The plant is integrated into the company’s broader European network for coated steel production and processes hot-rolled coils supplied from ArcelorMittal’s plant in Ghent.

The galvanized steel products manufactured at the Flemal plant are intended for various industrial applications, including road safety infrastructure, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, industrial equipment, and automotive components.

Technically, the Galva 5 line is capable of processing hot-rolled coils up to 6.35 mm thick and 1,880 mm wide. The facility is also equipped with in-line pickling technology, which allows for shorter production routes and ensures compatibility with high-strength steels and various types of metal coatings.

As reported by GMK Center, ArcelorMittal Belgium is preparing to close the ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks plant in Ghent (Belgium). The plant has been affected by the downturn in the European automotive sector, which has been accompanied by a significant decline in production volumes, decreasing margins, and mounting losses over several years.
