Aperam increased stainless steel shipments by 4.9% y/y in 2024

In 2024, Luxembourg-based stainless steel producer Aperam increased its supply of stainless and electrical steel by 4.9% year-on-year – to 1.626 million tons. This was made possible due to a low comparison base in 2023 caused by distributors selling off stocks. It is reported by ArgusMedia.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, shipments increased by 2.6% quarter-on-quarter, amounting to 401 thousand tons, although they decreased by 1.5% year-on-year. Demand in Europe showed a slight improvement, while in Brazil it was higher than expected.

The Services and Solutions segment increased shipments by 9% year-on-year – to 169 thousand tons. At the same time, shipments in the alloys and specialty products segment remained stable at 10 kt.

In the Recycling and Renewable Resources segment, which includes ELG and Aperam BioEnergia, scrap shipments decreased by 7.4% in the fourth quarter to 312 kt, but increased by 6.6% to 1.464 million tons for the year.

The company’s total adjusted EBITDA more than doubled to €116 million in Q4 2024, driven by a record result in the Alloys segment and strong performance in Recycling & Renewables.

At the same time, in the first quarter of 2025, Aperam expects a decrease in EBITDA, as well as a significant increase in net financial debt due to the consolidation of Universal Stainless & Alloy Products.

As GMK Center reported earlier, global stainless steel production in January-September 2024 increased by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2023 – to 46.09 million tons. During this period, Europe, including Ukraine, increased its stainless steel production by 4.9% compared to January-September 2023 – to 4.69 million tons. The United States increased by 9.1% y/y over 9 months – to 1.51 million tons.
