The Kallanish Global Flat Steel 2025 conference will take place on October 16 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The event will bring together representatives of the global flat steel supply chain to discuss current issues affecting the market.
The tariffs imposed by the US president have clouded the prospects for global trade and economic growth. In particular, this raises concerns about the redirection of steel trade from the United States to other, unprotected markets. Numerous jurisdictions have already initiated trade cases on flat steel in response to rising Chinese exports. At the same time, others are considering the implications of the US moves.
The EU has conducted a comprehensive review of its safeguard measures and is also adjusting the CBAM ahead of the mechanism’s full launch in 2026. The bloc’s recent industrial packages also aim to accelerate investment in decarbonization and stimulate domestic demand in the region.
At the same time, Chinese steel exports show no signs of slowing down in 2025. However, this may change after Vietnam introduces anti-dumping duties on Chinese hot-rolled steel and India announces its protective measures.
In the absence of any improvement in domestic demand for steel in China, metal products from this country will need to find a new place. One possible alternative is a mandatory reduction in production (according to market assumptions, a reduction of 50 million tons is planned for 2025).
India continues to be a positive factor in terms of demand, against the backdrop of rapid urbanization and growing consumption. The country has increased its target steel production capacity for 2030, but progress in this area is threatened by problems with decarbonization and raw material supply.
