The event will examine the situation on the Asian steel market and current challenges
On April 22-23, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) will host the Asia Steel Markets 2026 conference, organized by Kallanish.
The event will be dedicated to the question of whether 2026 will be a turning point for the metallurgical sector after several difficult years, and will bring together representatives of the global steel community.
The world is moving towards another «new normal,» so companies that keep pace with rapidly changing markets will be able to take advantage of the recovery in the steel industry.
China’s economic slowdown is now better understood. The country’s policy responses have been more mature than in previous crises, and these advantages may begin to pay off. The wave of steel exports has peaked, and there is now some room for other exporting countries and local producers.
At the same time, India has shown that its underlying demand and investment growth can continue even during turbulent periods. Despite political or economic obstacles, the country’s capacity, consumption, and trade volumes are growing.
Other East Asian giants continue to make progress in decarbonisation and moving their heavy industry outside the region.
Southeast Asia continues to build capacity and sustain demand through infrastructure, albeit with mixed success. Numerous trade and political barriers complicate the situation, and the response to geopolitical factors has caused currency and balance of payments problems. However, as the global trading environment adapts to new expectations, the region may benefit from greater certainty.
In such a complex global situation, the metallurgical industry needs opportunities for unity and understanding of new prospects. Acceptance of the changing global economic order must be accompanied by a change in positions to increase economic benefits.
The conference agenda includes the following issues:
- Asia in focus (the possibility of a decline in Chinese steel exports from peak levels, the ability of other Asian exporters to overtake China, India’s ability to support international markets through its own growth, etc.);
- The role of China and India in the Asian steel landscape;
- Investing to meet demand;
- The impact of political factors on trade;
- Materials for steelmaking;
- A look to the future.
