Acciaierie d’Italia shuts down blast furnace No. 4 in Taranto for maintenance

On February 26, Acciaierie d’Italia (ADI), a metallurgical company under extraordinary administration, began a temporary shutdown of blast furnace No. 4 at its plant in Taranto. This was reported by Buonasera24, citing an announcement by the steel manufacturer.

As noted, the process was initiated in accordance with the established schedule. This is in line with the emergency administration’s plan to improve the efficiency and functionality of the Taranto facility by ensuring continuity of production and structural investments until the tender procedures are completed.

The restart of blast furnace No. 4 is scheduled for April 30 this year.

On February 21, Acciaierie d’Italia announced the resumption of blast furnace No. 2.

It should be noted that since February 2024, more than €997 million has been allocated for maintenance and industrial investments at Acciaierie d’Italia.

The company’s blast furnace No. 2 has been idle for two years, with only blast furnace No. 4 operating at the plant. In May 2025, blast furnace No. 1 was confiscated without the right to use it. The measure was taken by the Taranto prosecutor’s office after a fire caused by an incident with this unit.

As reported by GMK Center, in February this year, the European Commission approved a rescue loan of up to €390 million for Acciaierie d’Italia, Italy’s largest integrated steel producer. The measure is intended to cover the company’s operating costs until it is transferred to a new operator. The company operates eight production and service facilities, with the largest plant located in Taranto.
