Acciaierie d’Italia has presented details of the restart of the plant in Taranto

The extraordinary administration of the metallurgical company Acciaierie d’Italia (ADI) has announced details of the restart of the Taranto plant.

As noted, the emergency industrial plan for the main assets in Taranto is proceeding according to schedule.

Testing, heating, and filling of blast furnace No. 2 have been completed, and its restart is planned for the near future.

At the same time, scheduled maintenance of blast furnace No. 4 will begin on February 28 and is expected to last approximately 60 days. ADI also plans to return coke oven batteries No. 7, 8, and 12, which were temporarily idle, to operation.

“The completion of these operations will allow the plant to return to a production capacity of 4 million tons of steel per year by the end of April 2026, along with the restart of the coke and chemical divisions,” the statement said.

Since February 2024, more than €997 million has been allocated for maintenance and industrial investments for ADI. In addition, during 2025, the industrial site in Taranto recorded the highest number of hours worked in recent years by both direct personnel and third-party companies.

In February, the European Commission approved a rescue loan of up to €390 million for Acciaierie d’Italia, Italy’s largest integrated steel producer, in accordance with EU state aid rules. The measure is intended to cover the company’s operating costs until it is transferred to a new operator.
