The veteran reintegration ecosystem helps service members adjust to life after service and advance their careers
About 80% of demobilized Metinvest Group employees return to work at the company’s facilities after their military service. This is facilitated by a comprehensive ecosystem for veteran reintegration, which includes psychological support, assistance for families, retraining, workplace adaptation, and the development of an inclusive environment. This was stated by Tetyana Petruk, Director of Sustainable Development and Employee Relations at Metinvest Group.
The system was one of the reasons Metinvest won the Brilliance Awards in the Corporate Wellness category. The company also received a silver award in the Recruitment & Retention category for its Retain to Sustain initiative, aimed at retaining and developing staff amid prolonged instability.
According to Tetyana Petruk, more than 8,000 company employees are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2014, approximately 11,000 of the group’s specialists have completed military service. Metinvest has already welcomed 1,000 veterans into its team, and in recent months alone, over 100 military personnel have returned to the company.
The reintegration ecosystem involves more than just physical recovery. The company provides access to psychological counseling, trains managers to work with veterans, supports their families, and helps them adapt to civilian life. If an employee cannot return to their previous position due to an injury, Metinvest offers retraining, a change in career path, flexible working conditions, and workplace accommodations.
The company places a special emphasis on hiring veterans who have not previously worked within the group. Over 10% of the veterans employed by Metinvest are new to the company. This allows the company not only to support people after their service but also to replenish its talent pool amid a labor shortage.
According to Petruk, for Metinvest, supporting veterans and developing talent is part of the company’s long-term sustainability. The company also promotes international employee mobility between its divisions in Ukraine, the EU, the UK, and Switzerland, building a “steel bridge” between Ukrainian and European business.
As a reminder, in the first quarter of 2026, the Metinvest Group, including its associates and joint ventures, paid UAH 4.3 billion in taxes and fees to budgets at all levels in Ukraine. The largest single payment was the subsoil use fee, amounting to 1.2 billion UAH. In second place was the unified social contribution (USC) of 823 million UAH, and in third place was the personal income tax (PIT) of 727 million UAH.
