The company's second module produced 2.43 million tons of direct reduced iron last year
Tosyali Holding’s Algerian subsidiary, Tosyali Algerie, set a new world record for annual DRI production using a single direct reduction module in 2025. This was reported by Midrex.
Last year, the company’s Module 2 produced 2.43 million tons of direct reduced iron, a record achievement in its first year of operation.
In addition, Tosyali Algerie’s first direct reduction module ranked third in the world in terms of annual DRI production in 2025.
“As one of the world’s leading green steel producers, we continue our DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) investments at our facility in Algeria, delivering lower carbon emissions. Since 2020, our TOSYALI Algérie plant has broken the world DRI production record every year,” said Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding.
According to him, thanks to the advanced technologies used by the second DRI unit, it became the first in the world to start commercial production with the ability to operate on both natural gas and 100% hydrogen with minor modifications.
“The record production figures we have achieved with the new DRI module not only confirm the success of our investment strategy focused on sustainable development, efficiency, and scale, but also further strengthen Tosyalı’s position as a global producer of ‘green’ steel,” emphasized Fuat Tosyalı.
Module 2 for Tosyali Algerie was installed by Midrex Technologies and its consortium partner Paul Wurth, part of the SMS group. The plant is capable of producing both hot direct reduced iron (HDRI) and cold direct reduced iron (CDRI), ensuring flexibility and operational efficiency.
It should be recalled that last summer, Italy and Algeria considered jointly building a DRI production plant. The agreement between Italy’s CEIP Scarl and Algeria’s Copresud was estimated at €1 billion.
