Steel production in 70 countries amounted to 143.3 million tons per month
Global steel production in October 2025 decreased by 5.9% compared to the same month in 2024, to 143.3 million tons. Compared to the previous month, the figure increased by 1.1%. This is evidenced by the World Steel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).
Total steel production in the CIS countries + Ukraine decreased by 5.1% y/y and increased by 3.2% m/m to 6.4 million tons, in particular, in Ukraine, it increased by 7.5% y/y and 6.2% m/m to 648.8 thousand tons.
According to World Steel, the top ten steel-producing countries in October were:
- China – 72 million tons (-12.1% y/y);
- India – 13.6 million tons (+5.9%);
- USA – 7 million tons (+9.4%);
- Japan – 6.9 million tons (-1%);
- Russia – 5.3 million tons (-6.2%);
- South Korea – 5.1 million tons (-5.8%);
- Iran – 3.3 million tons (+12%);
- Turkey – 3.2 million tons (+3.1%);
- Germany – 3.1 million tons (-3%).
- Brazil – 3 million tons (-2.7%).
In January-October, global steel production decreased by 2.1% y/y – to 1.518 billion tons. In the CIS+Ukraine region, the figure decreased by 5.1% y/y – to 67.7 million tons. Ukraine produced 6.17 million tons of steel in 10 months, which is 4.9% less y/y.

As reported by GMK Center, global steel production decreased by 0.9% compared to 2023, to 1.839 billion tons, at the end of 2024. In December 2024, the figure was 144.5 million tons, which is 5.6% more than in December 2023 and 1.6% less than in the previous month.
Ukraine produced 7.57 million tons of steel last year, which is 21.6% more than in 2023. In December, smelting volumes amounted to 547,000 tons (+5.1% y/y; +1.1% m/m).
