The company supports housing and infrastructure repairs, educational programs, assistance for veterans and vulnerable groups

Ferrexpo, the London-listed iron ore producer with operations in Ukraine, has spent more than $28 mln in humanitarian and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, according to the company’s latest Responsible Business Report.

The funds have supported over 100 separate projects, reflecting the company’s shift from emergency aid to long-term recovery and community development.

In the first months of the war, Ferrexpo focused on humanitarian relief, supplying in particular food and medicines to affected people. Over time, the company’s priorities evolved toward infrastructure reconstruction and social support, including repair of schools, housing for displaced families, and rehabilitation programs for veterans and their families. Since February 2022, the company has housed more than 3,500 people.

“In my view there is a misconception about CSR. Many people believe it is about reducing negative impacts, but in my mind, it is about developing positives. People not only want to work in a safe environment, but they also want to live in one too. That’s why we put so much effort in to building parks and stadiums, equipping schools and hospitals, building water, energy and other infrastructure,” emphasized Yurii Khimich, Corporate Social Responsibility Project Leader in Ukraine and General Director of Ferrexpo Belanovo Mining.

As previously reported by GMK Center, Ferrexpo’s Femunity Teens project has been recognized as the best social initiative for young people by Delo.ua as part of the Best Employers of Ukraine 2024 rating. This project aims to develop young people in local communities in Poltava oblast through educational programs, trainings, and events that promote leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. Project participants gain knowledge on important topics such as emotional intelligence, self-esteem, time management, financial literacy, diversity, and inclusion.
