Fortescue to work with Envision Energy to promote industrial decarbonization

The companies will partner in the wind energy sector

Australian mining company Fortescue Metals Group and China’s Envision Energy have announced a partnership to accelerate global industrial decarbonization and develop competitively priced, round-the-clock clean energy systems, SteelOrbis reports.

The companies announced the alliance during the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September.

As part of the initiative, Fortescue has selected Envision Energy as its strategic partner in the field of wind energy. The collaboration will draw on the Chinese company’s expertise in this field, energy storage, and digital management.

This collaboration will form the basis of Fortescue’s commitment to eliminate Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

The companies have signed an agreement to supply 132 MW of turbines for Fortescue’s first large-scale wind project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Envision will provide EN182-7.8 MW turbines. They will be integrated with Nabrawind’s 188-meter tower technology.

In total, the Australian mining company plans to develop 2-3 GW of combined wind and solar capacity, backed by large-scale battery storage.

It should be noted that in the summer of 2025, Fortescue received a syndicated term loan of 14.2 billion yuan (approximately $2 billion) for its green energy plans. Leading Chinese, Australian, and international lenders participated in the financing.
