The parties already have examples of industrial cooperation
India and the United Arab Emirates are exploring opportunities to deepen industrial cooperation in the steel and aluminum sectors under a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement, according to The Economic Times.
At a meeting between Indian Steel Minister H.D. Kumarswamy and UAE Economy Minister Abdullah bin Took Al Marri this week, the focus was on joint opportunities in green steel production and the development of high-quality materials for the automotive and other industries.
«India and the UAE can be strong partners in green steel production and sustainable industrial growth. The UAE can play a key role in helping India achieve its goal of producing 300 million tons of steel by 2030, in particular by supporting the security of raw materials and ensuring energy-efficient production systems,» said Kumaraswamy.
Indian companies are already establishing relevant industrial partnerships. For example, state-owned steel producer SAIL currently purchases approximately 2.5 million tons of limestone annually from Ras Al Khaimah-based Stevin Rock LLC and is exploring the possibility of long-term ties. The company is also evaluating opportunities to supply high-quality Indian steel to the UAE’s infrastructure and industrial sectors.
NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, is in talks with companies from the United Arab Emirates to develop a value chain in the mining industry.
SAIL and NMDC have also set up international offices in Dubai.
India aims to increase steel production to 500 million tons per year by 2047.
