Before the full-scale invasion, these products were produced at the Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works

Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works has set up the production of hot-rolled steel from structural steel grades. This was reported to GMK Center by the company’s press service.

«The mill has successfully passed the process of expanding the scope of the certificate for compliance of hot-rolled rolled products with the requirements of the EN 10025-1 standard for steel grades S235-275 J0-J2 and S355 J0-J2,» the message states.

Zaporizhstal has started production of demanded steel products that were produced at Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol before the full-scale invasion. To do so, the plant underwent an inspection of its production process and an analysis of its technological capabilities. As a result, the company received a certificate of conformity for its production control system from the international certification body Dedal.

«Despite the full-scale war and difficult crisis times in the domestic mining and steel complex, Zaporizhstal continues to work on expanding its product mix and entering new markets. The certificate of conformity of the production control system will allow Zaporizhstal to move into a new segment – the production of more critical structural pipes, as well as parts for mechanical engineering and containers. Today, it is flexibility and prompt response to customer requests that allow the company with a 90-year history to operate, retain its team and support the Ukrainian economy,» said Zaporizhstal’s CEO Roman Slobodyanuk.

Trial deliveries of the corresponding products have already been sent to several Polish customers. The company received the first feedback on the cutting and production of pipes. Control tests were carried out.

«By continuing to work in this direction, Zaporizhstal will be able to improve its production results, achieve additional production and sales volumes of hot-rolled steel that meets the European standard. The products fully comply with the requirements of the European Union directives in terms of rolled products used in civil and industrial construction,» the company summarizes.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Zaporizhstal in October 2023 increased the production of rolled steel by 3.3% compared to the previous month – up to 208.6 thousand tons. In January-October 2023, the production of rolled steel increased by 40.6% y/y.
