Zaporizhstal reduces the consumption of purchased electricity

The company has already reduced energy consumption from the energy system of Ukraine by 15 MWh

In the conditions of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works of the Metinvest Group quickly developed a plan to reduce the consumption of purchased electricity in the conditions of operational production. This is stated on the company’s Facebook page.

In accordance with the plan, the following measures were taken:

• a list of production facilities that can operate at reduced parameters during the peak period has been determined;
• the production configuration was changed, it was reoriented to the production of commercial pig iron;
• the operation mode of energy-intensive rolling mills 1150 and 1680 in hot-rolling shop, mills and units in the cold-rolling shop has been changed.

The steps taken at the enterprise have already made it possible to reduce energy consumption from the energy system of Ukraine by 15 MWh. Zaporizhstal will continue to monitor the situation in order to continue work, but adjust it as necessary.

“Each conscious Ukrainian should now implement the regime of frugal use of electricity, both at the scale of one household and at the scale of industrial production,” the message says.

As GMK Center reported earlier, after Russian missile attacks on October 10, some Ukrainian iron and steel companies were forced to temporarily stop or limit production. The reason for this decision was the damage of state electricity infrastructure, which caused problems with the energy supply of the regions.

After the attacks on October 10, the Ferrexpo company temporarily stopped production at its enterprises in the Poltava region, and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih limited capacity. Metinvest enterprises focused on preventing emergency situations that could potentially arise due to the lack of a stable power supply.
