Pig iron production fell by 9.5% y/y over the period
The Zaporizhstal Metallurgical Plant reduced its steel production by 7.7 per cent year-on-year in January–June 2026, to 1.44 million tonnes. This is stated in a press release from the company.
Pig iron production in the first half of the year totalled 1.56 million tonnes, which is 9.5% less than in the same period of 2025. Rolled steel production for the period amounted to 1.27 million tonnes (-3.4% year-on-year).
In June, Zaporizhstal produced 301.2 thousand tonnes of pig iron, which is 2.9% higher year-on-year and 24.4% higher than the previous month. Steel output for the month rose by 6.5% year-on-year and 17% month-on-month to 284.9 thousand tonnes. Rolled steel production in June stood at 243.7 thousand tonnes (+10.6% year-on-year and 16.6% compared with the previous month).
It should be noted that in 2025, Zaporizhstal increased its rolled steel production by 15.1% compared with 2024, to 2.795 million tonnes. Pig iron production over the 12-month period reached 3.568 million tonnes, up 15% year-on-year. Steel output rose by 11.1% year-on-year, to 3.212 million tonnes.
By the end of 2025, the company had launched production of three new types of flat steel – two products in the hot-rolled segment and one type of cold-rolled steel.
As reported by GMK Center, the steelworks took first place in the ranking of the largest employers in the Zaporizhzhia region. The ranking was compiled based on an analysis of the financial statements of Ukrainian companies for 2025. The company became the regional leader in terms of workforce, with over 8,000 employees.
