Zaporizhstal has saved UAH 900,000 on slab cutting since the beginning of the year

The economic effect was achieved thanks to the reduction in the amount of cutting

Specialists of the hot-rolling workshop of the Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works of the Metinvest Group assembled an automatic gas cutting machine from spare parts by themselves. The company’s press service reports about it on the Facebook page.

Since January 2022, thanks to the new self-produced unit, it has been possible to save almost UAH 900,000. Such an economic effect was achieved due to a reduction in the amount of cutting in the production of slabs.

The company has recently renewed the system for submitting proposals, which is a tool for reducing production costs and saving energy resources.

Among the projects implemented by the hot-rolling workshop (HRW) team over the past year, there is also a measure to save the specific consumption of steel for rolling on the continuous flat mill «1680». This led to a saving of 600 tons of steel per month at full production capacity (the economic effect of the initiative is UAH 19 million per year). In addition, HRW has developed a methodology for changing the profiling of the cage’s working rolls № 10 (annual savings – UAH 1.2 million).

As GMK Center reported earlier, Zaporizhstal launched two repairs on the BTA-4 line of the cold rolling shop (tightening of drives and repair of the coil preparation section’s wiring, welding of unwinder scrapers №1 and №2 and other works). In August-September 2022, Metinvest specialists restored the unit. This will ensure its high-quality and uninterrupted operation.

In August 2022, Zaporizhstal reduced the production of rolled steel by 73.4% compared to the same month of 2021 – to 74.7 thousand tons. The pig iron production decreased by 63.6% compared to August 2021 – to 145.6 thousand tons, and steel output for the month fell by 72.2% – to 94.4 thousand tons.
