Voestalpine has received orders worth €500 million from European railway operators

The clients are Germany's Deutsche Bahn and Switzerland's Swiss Federal Railways

Austrian steel manufacturer voestalpine AG announced that its Railway Systems division has received orders totaling €500 million from two European railway operators.

The customers are national railways—Germany’s Deutsche Bahn and Switzerland’s Schweizerische Bundesbahnen. The contracts include the supply of rails, switch systems, as well as signaling technologies and monitoring systems.

As Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG, noted, the orders will continue the company’s long-standing partnership with both railways. According to him, the “Railway Systems” business segment has once again demonstrated its growth potential in challenging economic conditions.

In 2026 alone, Deutsche Bahn plans to invest over €23 billion to modernize the national railway infrastructure. Voestalpine Railway Systems will supply the operator with high-quality rails and switch components. These will be used in projects such as the major renovation of Frankfurt’s main station, as well as in the modernization of high-performance corridors, including the Hamburg-Berlin line.

Schweizerische Bundesbahnen recently signed a framework agreement with a term of up to 20 years regarding the further digitalization of its rail network. By supplying state-of-the-art axle counting systems that indicate whether a track section is clear or occupied, voestalpine Railway Systems plays a key role in enhancing the safety of the Swiss rail network and is becoming a leading supplier of standardized signaling technologies (EULYNX). A service contract was also signed for the maintenance and diagnostics of the systems, as well as cybersecurity solutions.

As a reminder, in January, voestalpine received an order for high-bay storage systems for a logistics center in Istanbul—currently the largest order in the company’s history.
