Transportation of ferrous metals for the month amounted to 340,000 tons
In October 2024, Ukrainian Railways JSC (UZ) increased the transportation of iron and manganese ore by 5.2% compared to the previous month, to 2.484 million tons. The figure is up 29% compared to October 2023. This was reported to GMK Center by the press service of the railway operator.
The company transported 1.315 million tons of raw materials to seaports, or 52.9% of iron ore exports. The volume of land crossings was 1.169 million tons (47.1%).
In October, ferrous metals were transported for export in 340 thousand tons, down 31.2% month-on-month and up 2.8% compared to October 2023. Ports transported 230.5 thousand tons of relevant products (67.8% of total exports of ferrous metals), and land crossings – 109.4 thousand tons.
In total, in October 2024, UZ transported 15.06 million tons of cargo, which is 8.8% more than in the previous month and 10.9% more than in the previous year.
“Massive shelling significantly affects the state of the energy sector, certain industries, and transport infrastructure, which affects the dynamics of cargo transportation,” UZ said.
In export traffic, 7.15 million tons of cargo were transported over the month, which is 15.7% more than in the previous month and 1.5 times more than in the previous year. In the structure of export transportation, the key places are occupied by: grain – 3.07 million tons (42.9% of the total volume of cargo handled), iron ore (34.7%), and construction materials – 456 thousand tons (6.4%).
In January-October 2024, export transportation of iron ore amounted to 27.67 million tons (+2 times y/y), grain – 28.85 million tons (+64.3% y/y), ferrous metals – 4.33 million tons (+17.1% y/y). In total, UZ transported 146.94 million tons of cargo over the period, up 21.9% y/y. The company transported 71.07 million tons of cargo for export (+64.2% y/y).

llion tons of cargo, down 1.5%, or 2.2 million tons, compared to 2022. The transportation of iron ore decreased by 13.2% y/y – to 27.5 million tons, ferrous metals – by 10.6% y/y, to 8.2 million tons, and grain – by 5.9% y/y, to 30.6 million tons.
