News Infrastructure railway tracks 658 06 December 2024
The 2025 repair campaign will start after the average daily temperature rises
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) has repaired more than 1.1 thousand km of tracks with various types of repairs. This is stated in the press release of the railway operator.
The railroad is currently developing a repair plan for the next year, and the 2025 repair campaign will start after the average daily temperature rises, approximately in April.
In particular, to prepare for the restoration and modernization of the infrastructure next year, Ukrainian Railways has announced an international tender for the purchase of 30 thousand tons of P-65 rails.
“Thanks to this purchase, the railroad will be able to accelerate the implementation of infrastructure projects and repair at least 230 km of tracks in the most important areas. These are the frontline regions, directions to the Ukrainian mountains, where children travel by train for vacation, and important freight routes,” the company said.
The procurement will be funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and will be conducted on the EBRD’s Electronic Procurement Portal (ECEPP). Participants can submit their proposals until January 16, 2025.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian Railways increased track repairs by 19.6% compared to 2022, to 1.31 thousand km. In particular, 495.6 km of tracks was restored by overhaul, which is 5.7% more than in 2022, and 812.7 km of tracks was repaired by medium repair (+30% y/y). In addition, 284 sets of turnouts were overhauled.
Last year, UZ built 528 freight railcars at its own facilities, which was a record for the last five years. In particular, 427 fitting platforms were manufactured last year.
