In January-September, shipments of products abroad fell by 18.5% y/y

In September 2024, Ukrainian steel companies increased the export of commercial iron by 43.6% compared to the previous month – to 114.15 thousand tons. Compared to the same month of 2023, the indicator decreased by 9.3%. Export volumes are the maximum in the last 7 months, according to the data of the State Customs Service.

In September, an increase in the volume of shipments was observed to all key consumers. In particular, in the USA – increased by 50.8% m/m, to 74.7 thousand tons, in Italy – by 33.4% m/m, to 20.36 thousand tons, and in Poland – by 117.3% m/m, up to 8.78 thousand tons. Exports to Turkey were not carried out in September.

In January-September of the current year, shipments of pig iron abroad amounted to 863.61 thousand tons, which is 18.5% less compared to the same period in 2023. During this period, 575.91 thousand tons of relevant products were sent to the USA, 72.46 thousand tons to Turkey, 93.28 thousand tons to Italy, and 46.95 thousand tons to Poland.

The revenue from the export of pig iron for January-September 2024 decreased by 18.4% compared to the same period in 2023 – to $331.42 million. In September, it amounted to $44.98 million, which is 9.4% less y/y and by 38.3% more m/m.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine reduced the export of pig iron by 5.8% compared to 2022 – to 1.25 million tons. Compared to the pre-war year 2021, shipments of pig iron abroad decreased by 61.4%, or 1.99 million tons The revenue of domestic enterprises from exports decreased by 26.2% y/y – up to $471.5 million.

The largest consumer of Ukrainian-produced iron in 2023 was Poland – 51.9% in monetary terms. 21.4% of export shipments went to Spain and 13.1% – to the USA.
