Ferroalloys

Last year, mining and processing plants produced 171,000 tons of manganese concentrate

In 2025, Ukrainian ferroalloy enterprises increased their output by 17% y-o-y to 127,000 tons. For comparison, in pre-war 2021, ferroalloy enterprises produced 858.7 thousand tons of ferroalloys. This was reported by Sergiy Kudryavtsev, executive director of the Ukrainian Association of Ferroalloy Producers (UkrFA), in a column for GMK Center.

The production of certain types of ferroalloys increased as follows:

  • silicomanganese – by 8.7% y/y – to 113.2 thousand tons;
  • ferromanganese – almost 4 times, to 13.8 thousand tons.

No ferrosilicon or other ferroalloys were produced last year.

«Ferroalloy plants have refocused on the domestic market, as high domestic prices, difficulties with export logistics, and other factors create more favorable conditions for supplying the Ukrainian market rather than exporting. There is even re-export: products previously exported for sale in Europe are being returned or will be returned to fulfill contracts on the domestic market during plant downtime. In addition, the current production volume is insufficient to fulfill export contracts,» notes Sergey Kudryavtsev.

Last year, the Pokrovsk and Marganets mining and processing plants produced 171,000 tons of manganese concentrate. In 2024, the enterprises were idle. For comparison: in 2021, Pokrovsk Mining produced 1.21 million tons of concentrate, and Marganets Mining produced 551,000 tons.

As previously reported by GMK Center, Ukrainian ferroalloy enterprises exported 93,800 tons (+21.4% y/y) in 2025. The largest consumers of ferroalloy products during the period were Algeria (21.3 thousand tons), Poland (26 thousand tons, +24% y/y), Turkey (20.4 thousand tons, +87% y/y) and Italy (12 thousand tons, -29.1% y/y).

It should be recalled that in 2024, Ukrainian ferroalloy enterprises reduced their output by 49.4% y/y – to 108.2 thousand tons. In particular, silicon manganese production decreased by 45% y/y – to 104.2 thousand tons, and ferromanganese production decreased by 66.5% – to 3.6 thousand tons.
