World crude steel production increased by 3.4%

According to the World Steel Association, crude steel production in Ukraine increased by 8.5% to 1.9 million tons in August compared to the same month in 2018, thus raising the country from the 13th to the 11th position in the list of top 64 steelmaking countries in the world.

In the first eight months of 2019, Ukraine increased crude steel production by 4.7% to 14.7 million tons compared to January — August 2018.

World crude steel production in the 64 steelmaking countries was 156.0 million tons in August 2019, a 3.4% increase compared to the same month in 2018.

  • China’s crude steel production in August was 87.3 million tons, up 9.3%.
  • The U.S. also increased crude steel production — by 0.3% to 7.5 million tons.
  • Japan decreased crude steel production — by 7.8% to 8.1 million tons.
  • South Korea’s crude steel production also dropped — by 2.6% to 5.9 million tons.
  • Italy decreased crude steel production by 26.7% to 0.9 million tons.
  • Brazil also showed a decline — by 13.4% to 2.5 million tons.
  • So did Turkey — a 12.4% drop to 2.6 million tons.

According to Ukrmetallurgprom, Ukrainian metals and mining companies increased steel production by 4.8% to 14.7 million tons compared to the same period of the previous year.
