The main supplier of products is Turkey

In January-October 2024, Ukraine increased imports of long steel products by 10.6% year-on-year – to 149.02 ths tons. This is evidenced by data from the State Customs Service.

Most of all, angles, shaped and special profiles (HS 7216) were imported during the period – 64.52 ths tons, which is 55.7% more than in January-October 2023. Turkey is the main supplier of these products – 49.23 ths tons. Another 9.9 thsd tonnes were imported from Poland.

Also, Ukrainian consumers imported 30.73 ths tons of rebar (HS 7214), down 47.5% y/y. Turkey shipped 23.92 ths tons of rebar to the Ukrainian market, and China – 0.636 ths tons.

The top three most imported long products were wire rods (HS 7213), amounting to 12.82 ths tons (+173% y/y). Almost the entire volume was supplied from Moldova – 9.88 ths tons.

In October of this year, 18.38 ths tons of long products were supplied to the Ukrainian market, up 32.5% month-on-month and 0.2% year-on-year. Imports of rebar reached 2.46 ths tons (+53.5% m/m, -68.9% y/y), and angles – 3.62 ths tons (-59.5% m/m, -54.4% y/y).

Import costs for 10 months decreased by 0.4% compared to January-October 2023 – to $141.56 million, in October they amounted to $13.24 million, which is 6.4% less than in January-October and 19.4% y/y.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine increased imports of long products by 28% compared to 2022, to 167.13 ths tons. Import costs increased by 17.4% y/y – to $174.61 million over the year. Most of all, the company imported angles, shapes and special profiles made of unalloyed steel (HS 7216) – 65.67 ths tons for $56.84 million.
