This year, a total of 1,300 km of tracks are planned to be repaired with various repairs

In January-May 2023, Ukrainiаn Railways (UZ) updated more than 400 km of tracks with various types of repairs. In particular, the most active work is currently underway in Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa regions. This is stated in the press release on the website of the railway operator.

Over the course of five months, railway workers renovated 227.7 km of railway tracks with average repairs and 175.8 km with major repairs.

«Despite the war, we must maintain the infrastructure in proper condition and make up for overdue repairs as much as possible. After all, it is, first of all, the safety and speed of delivery of passengers and cargo. This year, a total of 1,300 km of tracks are planned to be repaired with various repairs. A third has already been done. We are also ready to restore the infrastructure in the territories that will be de-occupied after the counteroffensive of our Armed Forces,» said the Chairman of the UZ board Evgen Lyashchenko.

The overhaul of the tracks on the Svalyava-Vovchii section and at the Glynna-Navariya station in the Lviv region, as well as on the Motovylivka-Vasylkiv section near the capital, has already been completed.

Overhaul of the tracks on the Lyuboml – Maceiv in Lviv region, Vilnohorsk – Erastivka in Dnipropetrovsk region and Podilsk – Chubivka in Odesa region is actively underway. Work in these areas will be completed in June-July.

In 2022, Ukrainiаn Railways repaired a total of 1,904 km of tracks, of which 625.1 km were average repairs, and 468.9 km were capital repairs.

As GMK Center reported earlier, UZ will receive €200 million financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development through the project «Extraordinary support of the Ukrainian railway». The funds, in particular, will be directed to the purchase of materials for the restoration of railway corridors from the EU.
