Turkey’s Tosyali Holding is preparing to begin production of automotive steel in Algeria in the third quarter of this year, according to Türkiye Today.

This move is part of the company’s ongoing $2.5 billion investment in the country.

The company plans to expand its production capacity in Algeria by 3 million tons, which will allow it to double daily production from 50,000 to 100,000 tons of steel within 30 months.

The group will allocate 700,000 tons of its 1.6 million-ton flat steel production capacity in Algeria to automotive-grade products—deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year, adhering to high surface quality standards.

The additional capacity is also intended to meet the demand for raw materials used in the production of oil and gas pipes.

Tosyali Holding has steel production capacity of 15 million tons and operates nearly 50 facilities across three continents. In 2024, the company rose to 46th place in the global industry ranking and, with increased production, became one of the three fastest-growing steel producers in the world, maintaining its leading position in Turkey.

The Group is expanding its presence in Africa through new projects in Libya and Angola, reinforcing its ambition to build an integrated steelmaking ecosystem on the continent—from ore to finished products.

In Libya, the company is developing a direct-reduction iron plant with a capacity of 8.1 million tons per year, and is preparing to develop iron ore reserves of 2 billion tons with an annual production volume of 10 million tons in Angola.

Despite these expansion plans, Tosyali Holding Chairman Fuat Tosyali points to mounting pressure from cheap steel imports, particularly from Asia, warning that uncontrolled supplies could cause significant harm to Turkey’s steel industry. He believes that protective measures similar to those applied in Europe and the United States are necessary.

As a reminder, Tosyali Holding’s Algerian subsidiary, Tosyali Algerie, set a new world record for annual DRI production using a single direct reduction module in 2025. Last year, the company’s Module 2 produced 2.43 million tons of direct reduced iron, a record achievement set in its first year of operation.
