The EC has approved France’s €1.1 billion scheme to support investment in clean technologies

French state aid will be provided in the form of tax relief

At the end of February, the European Commission approved a €1.1 billion state aid scheme for France to support strategic investments that add clean technology production capacity. This is stated in the institution’s announcement.

It is noted that this will contribute to the transition to a zero-emission economy. The scheme was approved under the Clean Industry State Aid Framework (CISAF) adopted by the EC in June last year and is already the eighth clean technology production capacity development program approved since the adoption of CISAF.

The French scheme encourages investment in the production of additional zero-emission capacity using technologies such as solar, offshore or onshore wind, as well as heat pumps or storage technologies. In addition, it covers the costs associated with the main specific components of these technologies and critical raw materials. The aid will be provided in the form of a tax credit and may be granted until the end of 2028. The measure will be open to the whole of France.

As a reminder, Japan plans to allocate 210 billion yen ($1.34 billion) to help companies using clean energy to finance investments. The country seeks to increase demand for renewable energy and stimulate growth in the regions. The government intended to start accepting applications from eligible companies in fiscal year 2026 (beginning April 1).
