Saarstahl acquires Dutch steel producer FNsteel

With this deal, the Saarstahl Group is strengthening its position in the automotive and construction steel market

German steel company Saarstahl Aktiengesellschaft has announced the acquisition of Dutch long product manufacturer FNsteel B.V. The company, located in Alblasserdam, has some of the most modern production facilities in Europe and specializes in the production of high-quality cold-forging steel for the automotive and construction industries, according to a press release.

The cold forging process allows for the economical production of precision parts that can withstand extreme loads. Such steels are characterized by high purity, formability, strength, and reliability. This direction aptly complements the product portfolio of Saarstahl, which has many years of experience in the production and processing of special steels.

This is a superb fit for us and will help to consolidate our position in the cold heading steel sector. The integration of FNsteel is in line with our strategy to further expand our competitiveness and thus to strengthen Saarland and Germany as an industrial location,» said Stefan Rauber, CEO of Saarstahl.

Jonathan Weber, Director of Transformation at Saarstahl, added that the acquisition strengthens the expertise and production capabilities of both companies and opens up new avenues for growth.

“Our aim is to integrate the new plant quickly and effectively into our group of companies – in line with our strategy and the ongoing transformation process,” he added.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.

As a reminder, the Dutch steel industry increased steel production by 36.1% in 2024 compared to 2023, to 6.4 million tons. As a result, the country ranked 26th in the global ranking of steel-producing countries (71), compared to 33rd in 2023.
