Poland’s JSW exceeded its coking coal production plan by 20.1% in May

The company is increasing production and sales, demonstrating stable implementation of plans for 2025

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the largest coking coal producer in Europe, exceeded its coking coal production plan by 20.1% in May 2025. The figure reached 1 million tons, against the planned 0.83 million tons. The total coal production for the month amounted to 1.18 million tons, which is 11.2% more than planned, the company said in a press release.

These results were the result of the implementation of the Strategic Transformation Plan, thanks to which the company is actively switching from thermal coal production to coking coal. JSW emphasizes that this is a strategic priority for the coming years.

In May, the company sold 0.91 million tons of coking coal, 112.8% of the plan. Total sales for the month amounted to 1.05 million tons (104.6%). Since the beginning of the year, coking coal production has already exceeded the target by 9.6% and sales – by 7.6%.

Last month, coke production amounted to 0.24 million tons, which is 97.2% of the plan (0.26 million tons). Sales of the respective products were 4.1% less than planned – 0.24 million tons. Coke production in January-May was 0.5% lower than planned.

Despite the incidents and force majeure at the mines that affect the projected annual production, the company maintains high dynamics. In 2025, JSW plans to produce 13.37 million tons of coal, including 11.35 million tons of coking coal, and produce 3.31 million tons of coke.

“We have a clear development plan and operate in a transparent manner, which is confirmed by our results,” said Ryszard Janta, President of the Board of JSW.

In April of this year, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa exceeded its coal production plan by 1.5% – to 1.03 million tons, including coking coal by 6.7% to 0.86 million tons. Total coal sales amounted to 1.02 million tons (103.5% of the plan) and coking coal sales amounted to 0.89 million tons (111.6%). Coke production deviated from the target by 1.8% – to 0.23 million tons, while sales fell by 6% – to 0.24 million tons.
