Lemtrans opens new container terminal in Vinnytsia

The company has completed the first stage of construction of the project

Lemtrans Group has completed the first stage of construction and opened the Vinnytsia Container Terminal (VCT). This was reported to GMK Center by the company’s press service.

As part of this stage, new infrastructure was created: railway tracks were laid, a container yard with a capacity of up to 2,000 TEU was arranged and a covered warehouse with an area of 3,500 sq m was built. The total area of the terminal is 8 hectares and its throughput capacity is 30 thousand TEU per year. The terminal’s modern equipment and infrastructure ensure a significant acceleration of cargo handling.

‘We are creating new opportunities, as the emergence of such a terminal in the region opens up access to global logistics for cargo owners, both large and small. This means that exporters and importers are no longer dependent on the size of the consignment or the influence of global trading companies. The opening of the Vinnytsia Container Terminal is an important step for the further economic development of the region.’ Investments in the project are about $15 million,’ says VCT CEO Dmytro Balaba.

According to Vinnytsia Mayor Serhiy Morgunov, container shipping will allow Vinnytsia community to expand cooperation with other regions of Ukraine, and at the same time with other European countries.

‘In addition, we are talking about creating new jobs, increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of our community,’ said Morgunov.

Vinnytsia Container Terminal received its first train thanks to cooperation with UZ CARGO POLAND and the Liski Transport Service Centre of Ukrainian Railways. The first batch of cargo exceeded 60 TEU. This regular service will connect the Polish port of Gdansk with VCT.

In addition, shippers will be able to regularly send containers to the terminals of the greater Odesa area, and in the future – by rail to Germany, Belgium, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

‘Despite the full-scale war, we continue to implement new infrastructure projects. This terminal is part of our strategy to create a network of container terminals across Ukraine. These investments not only expand the capabilities of our Group, but also contribute to the development of Ukraine’s foreign trade, opening up new prospects and volumes of traffic,’ said Lemtrans CEO Volodymyr Mezentsev.

In the first half of 2024, Lemtrans paid over UAH 300 million in taxes to the budgets of all levels. Over UAH 280 million was transferred to the state budget and UAH 19 million to local budgets. The unified social contribution (USC) reached UAH 19.34 million.

Lemtrans is the largest private operator of railway rolling stock in Ukraine. The company’s main activities include organising transportation with its own rolling stock, providing freight forwarding services, providing information support for cargo movement and repairing rolling stock.
